One of the main reasons we have set up Velobreaks is to promote some new routes for cycling holidays. I like the cross-country A to B routes as you can get a real sense of achievement from completing them and you get to see a fair bit of different scenery as well – such as on the famous Coast to Coast route. We wanted to create that type of route but in a different part of the UK – a route that would provide some spectacular scenery, changing topographies and where when you’ve finished you’d feel that you’ve accomplished something interesting and challenging.
So here it is then, it’s not A to B – it’s B to B – the origination of the new Beacons to Beacon route. Into the Brecon Beacons, over the Malvern Hills, the Severn Vale, across the Cotswolds and finishing in the beautiful Chilterns near Ivinghoe Beacon.
There are many highlights to the route, from the challenges of Gospel Pass, the highest road mountain pass in Wales, to the Cotswolds Edge and the climb onto the Chilterns. Along the way we’ve created a ride that takes in some wonderful river valleys, passes through delightful villages and stops overnight in interesting towns.
We’ve just finished testing the route and making a couple of small modifications to the route design. In a few weeks it will be available to book on the Velobreaks website. I hope you have as much fun cycling it as we have had creating it.
